Today is the 100th day of school. There are several fun activities planned to go along with this day. Please take the time to ask your child what he/she did today.

Please remember to turn in your re-enrollment form this week if you haven't already done so.

Dear Parents:

Our next book report due will be a brown bag book report. I will demonstrate one to the class and keep it in the classroom if a parent needs to see it. Details will be coming out in my newsletter. Now would be a good time to find a book your child would like to report on. This will give them plenty of time to read a chapter book or at least a book that is challenging but interesting to them. The book report will be due the week we get back from our Christmas break.

Dear Parents:

Because our field trip to Buckelew Farms had to be canceled, the second grade teachers would like to do a special Halloween schedule during the afternoon of the 31st. We would like to end the day with a party so if any family would like to contribute a "goody"...it can even be healthy - like fruit or vegetables - it would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Parents:

Due to illness, I did not get Monday folders home last week. Therefore, a large number of papers came home in this Monday's folder. Please check for "correct and returns" and "look overs". With 28 children in the class I can't always go over every paper I would like to with each child, so I really appreciate when you parents take the time to do this.

Our first book report will be due in approximately two weeks. This will be a reading grade so please see that the book report is made on a book compatible with your child's ability. The book is free choice this month. Thank you for all you do! Mrs. Tate

Dear New Second Grade Parents:

It is amazing how fast the summer can fly by!!! Our revised second grade supply list is ready to be picked up at the front desk. A reminder that it won't be long before Target gets a school supply section set up and most of the items we have requested can be found there at a nice discounted price. Thank you for getting these items - you can be assured we use every single product on this list and really appreciate your generosity.... Hope your summer is going well and a second reminder that summer reading is so important in helping your little ones get ready for second grade!

Dear Parents: May 9, 2011

FIELD TRIP UPDATE: Tuesday we will be visiting the Flandrau Planetarium as well as the rock and mineral display on the UofA campus. This will be an exciting conclusion to our unit on space and and introduction to our unit on rocks and minerals. We will be leaving school at 9:45 and returning later in the afternoon. Please pack a lunch as we will be heading to Reid Park after we leave the planetarium.

Dear Parents, Monday, March 14

Because of our field trip to the zoo last Friday, I gave the spelling test on Thursday. Several
students were not ready so I am giving the same spelling test this Wednesday. The words are listed in this week's newsletter. The students who received 100 percent will not have to take it again.

I want to thank the parents who helped with the field trip. You are awesome!

Some of your children may have mentioned that I will be having a sub for a week. My daughter is expecting her first child and needs my help. Mrs. Cook is scheduled to substitute for me and is an excellent teacher who will keep things running very close to our regular class routine. However, everyone does things a little differently so please be flexible if some things are not the same during that time. Thank you. Mrs. Tate

A reminder that our one hundredth day of school is coming up which is a second very important funding day for La Paloma. We will have a very fun filled day so please be sure your child attends on that day.

Our next book report will be on a famous person. The library is an excellent resource as well as
Bookman's where a book can be purchased for a small fee.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

Thank you for all the candy sent in for the gingerbread houses and getting the money for the parent gift turned in so promptly! I know you will really love your gift! I am so thankful for all the wonderful students in my class this year and the support you parents have shown.

A reminder that the brown bag book reports are due the first week in December. Many students have already presented their reports already.

The field trip to Buckelew Farms was a great success due to the many parents who helped supervise. It made the trip much more enjoyable knowing there were many eyes keeping watch

over the children. The weather was perfect and I think a great time was had by all - children, teachers, monitors and parents!!! Thank you for taking the time to help. Reminder: Harvest Fall Festival this Friday.

We are beginning our "Book It" program this month. When a students meets the monthly reading requirement, he/she will receive a Pizza Hut certificate good for one personal pan pizza. This months requirement will be to present a book report to the class. The report will be due anytime during the week of September 27. Student's ready to present before that date may do so. End of the year party - Where has it gone? We have scheduled bowling for Thursday, May 27. The cost will be $6 per child.

A fabulous book fair is scheduled for the week of May 3 - 7. This is a chance to get some great books for summer reading. You buy one book and get the second book free!

Pancake breakfast with the principal - May 7.

Field Day - May 12. Children may dress down.

Dear Parents: March 3, 2010

Next week will be another short week. There is no school Friday or Monday for spring break. Report cards will go out Thursday. Thursday is a half day with no after school.

When we get back we will begin a research paper. This will take most of the last quarter of the school year to complete. The students may choose between four sharks; whale shark, tiger shark, great white shark or hammerhead shark. We will do the research and writing at school.

Next week will be a short week due to Rodeo Vacation - see school news. We are excited for grandparents day and have many exciting activities planned. We hope as many grandparents will attend as possible!

Dear Parents: Our next book report will be due soon. I would like the children to find a challenging book about a famous person. We have been watching some videos I have about people such as Benjamin Franklin, Helen Keller, Clara Barton, the wright Brothers etc. and reading books about such greats as Roberto Clemente, Ruby Bridges, Jackie Robinson - people who have made a difference in the world. I suggested the public library, or Bookman's as places to find a book - also Borders or Barnes and Noble. Please let me know if you are having difficulty finding a book!

BROWN BAG BOOK REPORTS UPDATE . . . . . . The boys and girls are doing a great job with their reports. It really makes a difference when they can pull a couple of items out of their bag while giving their reports. This helps them remember the story better and it really keeps the attention of the other students. Reports are due this week!

REMINDER: Our holiday concert will be held next Tuesday, December 9 at 9:15. It will take place in the santuary at Grace to the Nations on Pima Road. We will begin walking at 8:45 so please be prompt on that day. The children may wear red, green or white shirts.
