BROWN BAG BOOK REPORT:  Our next book report is due the week of December 17.  It is a brown bag book report.  If some children are ready before that date, they are welcome to give their report early. The children need to design the front of a grocery bag with a setting from the story they read.  Please have them remember to include both the title and author on the front of the bag.  If the bag has writing on both sides, a picture can be pasted to the bag.  I will check with AJ’s and Trader Joe’s.  I think their bags are printed on one side.  They are to place inside the bag various items (four or five) that will help them tell and illustrate the story when they give their report to the class.  They can even draw pictures if need be.  Remember to have them practice giving the report and pulling the items out as they tell about the story.  Please help them tell enough about the story so we get the idea of what the book was about.  I will give a “brown bag book report” of my own so the children will understand what they are to present and you are welcome to stop by the classroom and take a look at it also.

November 13

Thanksgiving is almost upon us.  Next Tuesday we will be celebrating with the rest of the school.  As you know, second grade is responsible for the mashed potatoes.  Thank you parents who have sent in a box of instant potatoes.  Also thank you to the parents who have already sent the $6.50 for the parent Christmas gift and a bag of small Christmas type candy for gingerbread houses.  I appreciate your promptness!

Spelling:  For many words that end in consonant, vowel, consonant, double the last consonant before adding ed or ing.

Dear Parents:

A relief that testing is over. The children did a great job with test taking and self-control.
Our homework this week can come in any time the children finish it. Our spelling is a review
of selected words from the last five spelling lessons. Next week is spirit week and the activities were outlined in the Link. Monday starts out with crazy hair day.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Tate

Dear Parents:

Our next book report due will be a brown bag book report. I will demonstrate one to the class and keep it in the classroom if a parent needs to see it. Details will be coming out in my newsletter. Now would be a good time to find a book your child would like to report on. This will give them plenty of time to read a chapter book or at least a book that is challenging but interesting to them. The book report will be due the week we get back from our Christmas break.

Have a great week: Sincerely, Kathy Tate
